As part of the Washington County Chamber's mission, we seek to promote the natural beauty of this scenic region in all we do.

One active program is KEEP WASHINGTON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL.  The Chamber fully supports this county-wide orgnazation with financial and manpower resources.  Clean ups are being planned at this time, in addition to educational programs on recycling, etc.

KEEP WASHINGTON COUNTY BEAUTIFUL is a local non-profit 501(c)(3) group which consist of Brenham residents, County residents, and local leaders that have three common goals in mind to enhance the quality of life in Washington County. Major goals of this group are litter prevention, beautification and source reduction/recycling.

“Keep Washington County Beautiful Inc. (KWCB) mission is to educate and engage Washington County citizens to take greater responsibility for keeping our historic county clean, safe, and beautiful, through litter prevention, waste management, beautification, and recycling.”

KWCB is dedicated to “getting dirty” and taking back our community from unsightly conditions. Membership dues and donations are used for educational outreach (flyers/brochures), cleanup event supplies (vests, pickers, etc.), and organized community events (Texas Recycles Day, Earth Day, Phone Book Recycling Drives, Texas Trash Off etc.) that benefit only Washington County.

A Mile A Year campaign

Washington County is known for wildflowers, especially bluebonnets! It is a key factor that drives our local economy each spring and leads to a major rise in business activity.

To maintain our status as one of the most scenic regions in the state, and keep the tourism impact that the wildflowers generate,  there is a need to re-seed along Highway 290 and  sow seeds in safe public viewing spots. Local partners are needed to help with this effort.  The Chamber’s goal is to scatter seeds on at least a mile a year.  Each mile requires 100-150 pounds of seed at over $33 per pound.  But the bluebonnets bring in revenue to our county from visitors who come to enjoy our sites and festivals.
