Celebrate
Texas Independence Day
at the "Birthplace of Texas"
Celebrate Texas’ 171st
birthday on Saturday and Sunday,
March 3 and 4, from 10 am until 5 pm each day. This annual
celebration brings Texas history alive as Washington-on-the-Brazos
State Historic Park is transformed into the early 1800’s with
costumed performers, period craft demonstrations, toe tappin’ Texas
music, and black-powder gun salutes by the Texas Army.
The Star of the Republic Museum will feature a special exhibit which includes one of the few remaining printed broadsides of the Texas Declaration of Independence, on loan from the Center for American History, University of Texas at Austin.
The highlight of the
weekend will be a ceremony on Sunday at
2 pm featuring these notable Texans: U. S. Congressman Michael
McCaul, State Representative Lois W. Kolkhorst,
and Mr. Sam Houston IV. The ceremony will be hosted by
Ron Stone. Award-winning artist Brian Burns will perform
Once Upon a Time in Texas, an engaging repertoire of songs and
storytelling about Texas’ illustrious history, culture, and
folklore. This ceremony is sure to stir hearts and minds while
instilling appreciation for Texas history. The event will be
complete with the Texas’ largest birthday cake for all to enjoy!
All admission and tour fees will be waived during the weekend! Food vendors will be selling a variety of delicious festival foods on site.
