A Railroad Quiet Zone in Brenham?

For the past several months, the City of Brenham has been discussing establishing a railroad quiet zone in which train engineers would not sound their horns. Options to achieving a "quiet zone" range from installing gates blocking all lanes of traffic on both sides of a crossing; installing raised medians; closing crossings; and installing "wayside" directional horns.

The City will demonstrate the use of the directional "wayside" horn at four railroad crossings on Thursday, Feb. 21.

The demonstrations will begin at 1pm and are expected to last an hour each. The schedule is as follows:

►Railroad crossings at Fifth & Jackson Streets - 1:00 p.m.
►Railroad crossing at College Avenue - 2:00 p.m.
►Railroad crossing at First Street - 3:00 p.m.
►Railroad crossing at Peabody Street - 4:00 p.m.

Residents and businesses are invited to share comments with the City Council at their regular meeting that same day at 5:15 p.m.  It is important to have citizen attendance at the demonstrations and input at the Council meeting.

Come let your voice be heard!  You can help in the City's decision to create a quiet zone.
